My husband's ex-wife and I were both injured in the same car accident.
He forced me to give up the rare blood that was meant to save me—so she could have it instead.
I was weak, barely conscious. "But I've lost too much blood. Without it, I'll die."
He looked at me with disgust. "Stop pretending. You're not dying."
"You just don't want to help her. How can you be so cruel?"
"Give her the blood. It's settled."
But I was the one who was more critically injured.
Chapter 1
I died.
My soul settled beside my husband, Ethan, outside the operating room.
His handsome face was lined with worry. In my memory, he was always cold and distant—his very presence seemed wrapped in ice. The man before me was almost unrecognizable.
When the operating room doors opened, he rushed forward without a care for his dignity. "How is she?"
"The surgery was successful. She's awake." The doctor tried to pull his arm free from Ethan's grip, but before he could finish, Ethan had already pushed through the doors.
"Vivian, does it still hurt?"
Vivian gave him a weak, gentle smile. "I'm fine."
Ethan's eyes were red. "Thank God. Seeing you covered in blood earlier... I was terrified."
Even though I was already dead, it felt like someone had ripped open my chest and let the cold wind rush in.
Just a few steps away, in another operating room, I had died.
The accident had ruptured my internal organs. The doctors worked frantically to repair the damage, but in the end, the blood loss was too severe. They couldn't save me.
My white-haired grandmother begged the doctors to keep trying. My best friend held her, sobbing hysterically.
But I didn't have to die.
Vivian leaned weakly against Ethan, her eyes drifting toward the other operating room as if by accident.
"How is Scarlett? I heard she was in the accident too."
"What about her!" Ethan's face darkened at the mention of my name. "She didn't have a scratch on her. But she still tried to hoard the blood like a selfish, heartless—" He stopped himself. "Don't worry about her."
So I was just... no one to him.
