Eunice sat at the back seat reading while everyone did their business. She always dressed awkwardly in a long, oversized, gown that ran down to her knees. She always wore her glasses, which gave her the complete look of a nerd.
She had no friends in her class. She loved being on her own, but a guy named kelvin
always found a way of bullying her.
But in all this, she remained calm. “Hey weirdo,” she instantly knew it was Kelvin because he was the only one that called her weirdo. She ignored him and continued reading.
“Hey, I'm talking to you,” he snapped, snatching her book. Making her look up.
“Please, Kelvin, not now. We have history in the next seven minutes, and I haven't revised what was taught in our last lesson.” she said, trying to make him understand that she should let her be.
“Huh, the nerd is now outspoken; who knew you could talk to this extent?” Beatrice, the cheerleader, mocked, and they all laughed at her. Making her hang her head in shame.
“It's none of my business whether you read or not; you're always reading, so take a break and socialize with everyone" Kelvin said with a smirk
Eunice bit her lower lip. This isn't the first time this has happened. She has already gotten used to everyone taunting her, but this Kelvin guy was always at her neck, never giving her a breathing space anytime he found the chance to bully her.
“Come-on, are you deaf? Socialize with everyone,” Beatrice added, and everyone laughed.
Eunice felt so embarrassed; it wasn't her fault she was introverted. She quietly raised her head. “ Please, Kelvin, I don't need this now, give me back my book.”
“Nah. What if I refuse?” he said, stepping closer to her.
“You can keep the book then,” she said, clearly annoyed this time. Everyone was taken aback.
“Who knows, you can talk back,” Theresa Beatrice's best friend said.
“What's going on here?” Everyone looked at the front and saw the history teacher, Mrs. Silver, standing in front of the class.
Everyone went back to their seats, some cursing at Eunice. Kelvin left her book on her desk and returned to his seat
“Alright learner's” the teacher began. Today we're going to talk about Aethelgard. I know some of you have heard about this kingdom. She said and wrote the topic on the board.
Okay this kingdom existed in the 1700s according to history it was ruled by two gods Kaelion and Lucian, Kaelion was considered as the good god while Lucian was very ruthless. Lucian wanted more power for his evil deeds which made him destroy the kingdom and left the kingdom in ruins.
Eunice raised her hand and all eyes went to her.
“Do you have a question?” The teacher asked.
“Yes”. She said with her heads down.
“Go on” the teacher said
“Why was Lucian wicked? “Also when he destroyed the kingdom did he destroy all the gods and deities in Aethelgard?”
“Kaelion was more powerful than Lucian because he's the god of light and thunder while Lucian was the god of fire again, whether all the gods were destroyed after the catastrophe wasn't explicitly stated here.”
“Seems like the history is unclear” Theresa muttered.
“Yes” the teacher replied “that's why I decided that next week Monday we're going to visit there it would be our project for this term”
“Does it still exist?” Nicholas asked.
“Yes it still exists, it's in the forests near the Jilo mountain.” “So I hope it would be exciting to visit there to see things for ourselves right.”
“Yes ma silver” they all chorused.
“Okay on Monday as we explore you have to come with your pen and book to document your findings okay”
They all nodded that would be all for today she said and left the class.
Eunice was lucky the other periods were occupied she didn't have to face kelvin after school she quickly went home on getting home she met her dad and mom.
“Hey, how are you doing? How was school?” her mom asked.
“It was good” she replied
“Honey, you know you have to start making friends,” her dad said.
“You don't have to force her to make friends she'll naturally make friends” her mom said
“But she hasn't had any friends since she was little she doesn't even talk to her cousins” her dad said
Eunice just stood there looking at them she herself wondered why she doesn't have friends everyone bullies her noone is kind to her do she stays on her own
She watched her parents as they continued to argue.
Mom, Dad I'll be upstairs” she said and ran upstairs she wanted a simple life but seems like she isn't getting one anytime soon she went to her room and freshened up she changed into her nightie cause she knows she isn't going downstairs, she brought out her books from her bag and started reading.
After like an hour or two she heard a knock on her door. ‘Eunice may I come in” she immediately recognized it as her mom's voice.
“Yes mom come in” she said closing her books she turned to see her mom carrying a plate of food
“You didn't come down to eat.” her mom asked, keeping the food on her study table.
“I wasn't hungry mom”she said
Did you eat at the canteen today
Yes I ate at the canteen that's why I'm not hungry” she lied.
You still have to eat Eunice you're getting lean”
Mom I've always had a petite figure” she said and they laughed.
“You love studying don't you get tired” her mom asked
“No mom, I don't feel tired, it gives me peace, remember I want to study medicine so I have to read.” she said.
“Okay I'll be on my way now make sure to eat your food”she said standing up to leave.
“Mom lest I forget we have an excursion to visit the Aethelgard” she said
“Where is this place called Aethelgard?” she asked, confused.
